PHRONTISTERY: THE STARTUP ECOSYSTEM IN THE PHILIPPINES
"No matter who you are, if you want to change the world, YOU CAN, but we need to work and fight together. Trust me we will succeed together."- Pang, The Gifted
As we move forward for the next step, we happened to have
lecture series for the month of November regarding about the startups on
business. Lecture Series No.1 was about: The Startup Ecosystem in the
Philippines and Why Do You Need to Start Now. The guest speaker was Mr.
Constantino Cj BrasileƱo, Jr., a graduate of BSBA major in Entrepreneurial
Marketing at Mindanao State University-IIT, Cum Laude. He is a Startup
evangelist with a background in Business Development and Entrepreneurship, he
has multiple experience in academe and community engagement and actively takes
part at the Philippine Start Up Ecosystem as a community builder. He was also a
Startup founder for a Startup called KNAPP, an online delivery platform catered
towards multi-cooks, carenderias and habal habal driver. Aim to building their
brands and as well as bring locally source food to tables. He believes creating
value within products and a constant practitioner of the design thinking method
in creating innovation for people and organizations. Aside from being a
currently student taking DBA or Doctor in Business Administration in MSU-IIT,
he also works as a lead for incubation of iDEYA that TBI (Technology Business
Incubator) of the university.
According to our guest lecturer, Mr. Cj BrasileƱo that
Startup is an early stage business and has a high level of uncertainty behind
it. If you think startup, it should be something that is very new and someone
that a person has not hear it before and then they try to create a business out
of it. In business, any product or service that immediately solves a known
problem through new ways. He also mentions about the composition of startups
holders, just like any kind of business as long as startups business, it consists
of 2-3 persons whom are called founders. He tackled about the perfect examples
of startups, when does startup stop becoming a startup, startup ecosystem all
about. There is also a chart and graph in the screen where he presented that
Philippines is among of the least investment and low GDP country, you can tell
the discrepancy in there. But hey, even though we are one of the slowest
internet service providers, we are actually the capital of social media use in
the world. Mr. Cj also showed the 5 sectors (criteria) on having a good idea to
generate startup going forward. For the last topic, Mr. Cj gave us some tips on
how to be part of the startup ecosystem, actually I really feel energize with
the thought of being one of them.
It such an honor for being one of the viewers in this lecture
video. I have learned that startups is really a good start in business, no
matter how many times you fail but the possibility of success is always after
the failure. I agree with the slideshow presentation regarding about the
perfect time to venture Startups, and yes now is the time to go for it. You
have to take risk in order to fill the emptiness of achieving a greater impact
in society's economy. I also believe that being a student and teenager itself,
it is the best time to participate on this kind of event in order to obtain the
early failure and self-satisfaction.
In view of the current topic, I would like to apply it to my team's business proposal which is the Phrontistery, that startup is also a right step to take in pursuing this business. Taking risk doesn't mean failure is ahead of us but instead make this an inspiration to at least be driven on achieving a greater purpose. Life is a choice that needs to be timely perceive. I make a choice and that is to start the startups!
